If the Ultimate Backup app has frozen or is stuck on one screen, closing it completely and opening it again is usually all it takes. On an iPhone or iPad this is done from the app switcher, and the steps depend on whether your device has a Home button.
iPhone or iPad with no Home button
Use these steps if there is no Home button below the screen.
- Go to the Home Screen.
- Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen and pause in the middle of the screen until the app switcher appears.
- Swipe sideways to find the Ultimate Backup app.
- Swipe up on the app's preview to close it.
iPhone or iPad with a Home button
Use these steps if your device has a round Home button below the screen.
- Double-click the Home button to open the app switcher.
- Swipe sideways to find the Ultimate Backup app.
- Swipe up on the app's preview to close it.
What closing the app does and does not do
This only shuts down the app that is running. It does not delete the app from your device, sign you out of your account, or remove anything from your Ultimate Backup. Files already backed up to the drive are left exactly as they are.
Once the app is closed, open it again from the Home Screen the way you normally would.
When force-closing is the right move
Force-close the app when it is frozen, not responding to taps, or stuck on one screen and will not move on. It is a quick reset rather than a repair, so there is no need to do it while the app is behaving normally.
If the same problem comes back after you reopen the app, take the drive out of the picture as well:
- Unplug your Ultimate Backup from the iPhone or iPad.
- Force-close the app using the steps above.
- Plug the drive back in.
- Open the app again.
That gives both the app and the connection to the drive a clean start, which clears most cases where the app hangs at the same point each time.
