A Chromebook may not let Android apps see a plugged-in drive until you have given permission for it in the Chromebook's own settings. Until you do, the Ultimate Backup app may not be able to find your drive, even though the Chromebook itself can see it. This takes about a minute and only needs doing once for each drive.
Before you start
- Install the Ultimate Backup app from the Google Play Store on your Chromebook.
- Plug your Ultimate Backup drive into the Chromebook.
Give the Chromebook permission to share the drive
- Click the time in the bottom right corner of the screen.
- Click the gear icon at the top of the panel that opens. This is the Chromebook's Settings.
- In the menu on the left, click Device. If you cannot see it, type External storage into the search box at the top instead.
- Click Storage management.
- Click External storage preferences.
- Under Available devices, find UBDRIVE and click the switch beside it so it turns blue.
That is all the Chromebook needs. Open the Ultimate Backup app again and it will find your drive, ready to back up or restore your photos.
If the app still cannot find your drive after this, contact us and we will be happy to help.
