Contacts that were backed up to your Ultimate Backup can be put back onto a phone or tablet, the same way photos and videos can — including onto a different kind of phone from the one they came from.
They have to have been backed up first
Only contacts the app actually backed up can be restored. On Android, contacts backup starts switched off, so it is worth confirming it was turned on before you rely on it being there — see App Setup for Android. On an iPhone or iPad the app asks for access to your contacts when it first backs up.
On an iPhone or iPad
Open Settings, then Restore Files. Pick the device whose contacts you want, select the contacts, and start the restore. They are added straight into the Contacts app.
Nothing here checks for duplicates. If iCloud has already put your contacts back on the phone, restoring them again leaves you with two of each. Copy Files from Ultimate Backup to iPhone or iPad has the full steps for the restore screen.
On an Android phone
Open Settings, then Restore Files. Pick the device, select the contacts, and tap IMPORT — your phone's own Contacts app takes over and finishes the import from there. Copy Files from Ultimate Backup to Android has the full steps.
It works across platforms
The list in Restore Files holds every device that has ever backed up to the drive, whatever kind it was. Contacts backed up from an iPhone can be restored onto an Android phone, and contacts from an Android phone onto an iPhone.
If you use KeepSafe, restore before it runs
On a phone you have just set up, restore your contacts before KeepSafe runs for the first time. Each KeepSafe upload replaces its stored copy of your contacts with whatever is on the phone at that moment — so a phone that has not had its contacts back yet would replace a full list with a nearly empty one.
