Photos you hide in the Photos app move to its Hidden album. iOS locks that album by default, and while it’s locked, iOS doesn’t share the photos in it with other apps, including the Ultimate Backup app. A backup then leaves your hidden photos out without an error, and its counts don’t show anything missing. To back them up, unlock the Hidden album for the backup, and lock it again afterwards if you like:
- Open the Settings app
- Scroll down and tap Apps, then tap Photos. (Before iOS 18, Photos is in the main list of Settings.)
- Turn the switch next to Use Face ID off. On an iPhone or iPad with Touch ID, it’s Use Touch ID, and on one with only a passcode, Use Passcode:
- Return to the Ultimate Backup app, and tap Resume Backup (or Start Backup). The app now finds your hidden photos and backs them up with the rest:
- Once the backup has finished, you can turn Use Face ID back on.
While the switch is on, photos you hide later aren’t backed up until you turn it off again for another backup. The copies already on your Ultimate Backup stay there. Unhiding a photo also lets the app back it up, without changing the setting.
