No. Your photos and files are stored on the drive itself, and you never need to log in to reach them. Connect your Ultimate Backup to your phone, tablet, or computer, and everything you have backed up is there on the drive, ready to open.
What you back up is written to the drive, so for those files there is no account standing between you and them.
SO WHAT IS THE ACCOUNT FOR?
Your account is for signing in on our website and in the app. It is not where your files are kept, and it is not needed to reach them.
Two features do use the account:
- KeepSafe keeps an extra copy of your files for you, separate from the drive. It is part of the mobile app and it is tied to your account, so KeepSafe does need you to be signed in.
- Manual backup is used when a drive cannot plug into your phone directly. Your files are placed in your account for a short while, and the computer app then signs in to the same account and saves them onto the drive. Both devices need to be signed in to the same account for this to finish.
Neither changes the answer for files already on the drive. The one exception is a manual backup you have not finished yet: until the computer app has moved those files onto the drive, they are still in your account.
Because of that, an account problem is never a file problem. Losing access to an account does not lock, hide, or delete anything that is already on the drive.
IF YOU CANNOT GET INTO YOUR ACCOUNT
If you have simply forgotten your password, you can set a new one on the Reset Password page.
If the account is tied to an email address you no longer use, or you cannot recover it for any other reason, you can create a new account instead — create a new account. Your files are not affected in any way. Making a new account does not erase, move, or hide anything already backed up, and the drive behaves exactly as it did before.
REACHING YOUR FILES
Connect your Ultimate Backup to the device you want to use it with, then open the Ultimate Backup app and let it read the drive. You will not be asked to log in to see what is stored there.
On a Mac or Windows computer you can also open the drive directly, without the app. Open File Explorer or Finder, select the drive, and you will find a folder named Backups holding everything you have backed up.
If you are unsure whether your files are on the drive, or you would like a hand checking, please contact us and we will be happy to look at it with you.
